news. >> good morning. thank you for waking up with us. it's monday, september 20th. i'm pam cook. >> and good morning. i'm dave clark. let's check your morning weather and traffic. >> we had a little cloud cover. now, patchy clouds. and temperatures will rebound slightly. today, a little more sun. but still on the breezy side. 60s, 70s, and mainly a lot of low 80s. now, here's sal. >> steve, on the east shore, traffic is moving well on the macarthur, with no major problems. also, this morning's commute is going to be okay on the 880 southbound. now, let's go back to the desk. >> sal, thank you. we're following several new developments in the pipeline explosion and fire in san bruno. this week, the coroner is expected to update the official death toll to 7. the family recently announced it lost loved ones in that tragedy. [ inaudible ] they were running the pressure above the maximum limit. and the deadly explosion could change how buildings are built near natural gas lines. in the meantime, claudine wong is joining us with the less of closures today. >> reporter: the question eve

begin our team coverage this morning with claudine wong. where are you and what can you tell us this morning? >> reporter: pam, we are as close to the fire line as they will allow us here on skyview. this is the command post, the staging area. there are two lines of police tape leading to that area. they don't want anyone getting closer. they are declaring this a crime scene and pushing everyone back. this has been an unbelievable scene for hours. it rocked this scene and created an inferno that destroyed dozens of homes in its wake. the priority is to get the fire out, which at last estimate was only 50% contained. -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: -- lieutenant- governor abel maldonado, the acting governor was on the scene from 1:30 to 4:00. he has declared a state of emergency and pland a briefing hours from now. and, of course you have everyone asking how this happened. everything points to this being a natural gas explosion. a full investigation was underway but aman said they were warn in signs. >> every day i could smell that smell from the gutter and sewer. a week and a hal

? the complex used to have one guard on duty. management hired a few more after the last assault. all of the assaults have taken place since late june. the latest last night happened at 6:00. a woman told the sheriff's office she was attacked while inside her apartment. the sheriff's officer told us last night that the man followed the woman through the gates of the apartment and into her apartment where he sexually assaulted her. >> i thought they caught the guy and it was all okay. i guess it is not. >> reporter: this is the man still behind bars in connection with the three other assaults at park regency earlier this summer. antonio mutan. his family claims he was innocent, but dna testing linked mutan to one of the rapes. we will have more from the sheriff's office this morning. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 5:02. in other news, there are several developments in the pipeline. fire and explosion in san bruno. pg&e was worried last year that liquids were corroding four pipelines, including the one that blew up last week. the doctor said the seven people se

living around lake merritt. jade hernandez joins us now from our newsroom with more. >> reporter: good morning. two actual assaults and two robberies took place on the same day -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: oak land police want anyone in and and the lake merritt area to be careful and aware 0 of their surroundings, police say he man responsible m attacked the two women sunday in relatively secluded areas but the department is not saying when or where the attacks took place. both were on their way home. police plan to release a skep of the attacker later today but for now they want anyone in the area to be more alert and report anything suspicious to police. >> from what we have been seeing recently with these robberies is people distracted by their cell phone and other electronic devices so especially be diligent entering and exiing cars and coming and going to and from home. >> reporter: the attacker is african american, in his 20s, 510 to 6'0" with a medium build wearing dark clothes. police say he is armed and dangerous. live more on this. live in the newsroom. jade hernandez, back
